Fear is bs. And maybe all we have to do is give ourselves a bucket of small examples of why that is true, in order to get to the good stuff. Grab a bucket, babes.

This is It's Only in Trying, a weekly podcast about the beautiful messiness of becoming. Alright, so I've got a quick one this week, but I've been thinking a lot about this quote that my absolute favorite comedian Mike Burbiglia said when he was responding to a question someone had submitted to him for his podcast. He said, Fear is bullshit. The worst thing that will happen is that you are embarrassed, but embarrassment won't kill you, it will teach you. This quo and what it means is applicable to everything. Not just getting the courage to get on stage for your first comedy set. And logically, this makes absolute sense. But you know, because the body keeps the score or whatever, sometimes logic has a hard time overriding our ingrained nervous system reactions. You know, cold sweats, feet in cement, lock jaw, all that crap. So then my brain jumps back to the idea of do one bold thing. Do one bold thing every day to give yourself a bucket of proof that fear is bullshit. You can do hard things, and embarrassment won't kill you. Lots of really smart people talk about this concept of finding ways to give yourself proof that you are capable, that you can do XYZ. Planet M, I'm looking at you. It could be as simple as looking someone dead in the eyes and telling them how much you love their crazy shoes. I say that because for some of us, prolonged and direct eye contact can feel very soul exposing, but do it anyway. Do these small, bold things to build up your bucket so that when you go to do the really hard thing, you have tons of examples of why you can do it. You've got your whole bucket. My new goal moving forward is to do one bold thing every day, big or small, to build up my bucket of proof that fear is bullshit. So everyone, grab your buckets and let's get to work. And as always, remember, you're doing better than you think.
